Blockbuster Launches New Movie Trailer Portal for 3G Users

At the 1st stage the project will be launched at the chain’s 250 Video Vending Machines (Videomats) across Israel, representing an investment of 300K NIS and using DSPV’s technology.

Blockbuster TM, Israel’s largest chain for movie purchase and rental, has already declared its intentions to get into the VOD (Video on Demand) world through the internet, and now the company announces the entrance to the cellular world by launching a new mobile portal for 3G handsets, enabling the viewing of trailers for the films on display.

Due to the growing competition between the cellular carriers regarding contents, the portal won’t be hosted on cellular companies’ portals as is customary, and the connection will be made through a video call directly to the portal.

Says Marko Nahcmani, Blockbuster’s Marketing and Advertising Manager: “This is a revolutionary project where we are the first to offer our customers a chance to preview a movie trailer at the site of the movie rental. We see this as an important new step addressing the young, hip and predominantly mobile customer segment.”

The new portal is in cooperation with DSPV, a company specializing in interactive mobile video portals based on video calls.
