Video Ringtones – Try before you Buy

 

 

Flashy and impossible to ignore, Video Ring-tones (AKA Videotones) are fast emerging as the new, slick younger brother of traditional ring-tones and true-tones. More than just eye-candy, video ring-tones may mark a transition similar to that which took place in the 80s when music video clips made their debut. But sales of the higher priced Videotones are made mostly through the Internet – since people like to see exactly what it is they buy before committing. An innovative 3G service launched by Craze Productions and DSPV aims to solve this, by using video calls. Rather than laboriously type in URLs to access a WAP site, in which static images give no hint of the merchandise’s true value, the users can now make a video call to the service number,  preview the available selection of new content, and choose exactly the Video Tone they want – after first trying it live on their phone!. Since the service can automatically identify returning customers, new personalized offers are going to keep users coming back for more. A true off-portal solution, the service combines the advantages of phone calls, such as speed, contact-book location, and ease of use, with those traditionally attributed to WAP: knowledge of handset type, visual dimension.

 

The service, available already in the UK at the local number 070-4574-0555, will in the near future evolve to offer much more – including interactive hip-hop quizzes, subscription options and unique “film your own lip-synch” competitions.

 

Craze and DSPV will be demonstrating the unique patented system at the World Telemedia Show in Prague next month at stand #41.
